Resistant Starch, Butyrate & Mood

Written by Joe Cohen, BS | Last updated:

I was taking 6 capsules of butyrate a day.

They stunk, tasted bad and were gross.

Even worse? Butyrate supplements don’t even get to your large intestine and create friendly bacteria.

I know what you’re thinking… Why were you torturing yourself? One reason – my body needs extra butyrate and I couldn’t find a good resistant starch.

Resistant starch is the best way to get your body to naturally produce serious amounts of butyrate on its own.

And when your body naturally produces butyrate in the large intestine, it does pass the gut barrier and enters the brain and the rest of the body, while also benefiting the large intestine itself.

That’s why I love resistant starch so much and why I’ve already won the title of “best customer” for this new supplement.

How did resistant starch improve my mood? Butyrate.

Butyrate has lots of benefits, but one of the major ones for me is an improved mood.

High levels of butyrate is particularly important for me because of my BDNF gene. I have variants that are already associated with low BDNF activity.

On top of that, stress can lower BDNF activity even further, so I end up with a snowball effect where I have very low BDNF levels and very bad moods.

Fortunately, increasing my butyrate levels has worked wonders. It increases BDNF activity, which helps to boost my brain function and improve my mood overall.

Now you probably see why I’ve been on a never ending hunt to find a good resistant starch.

When it comes to butyrate, the more the merrier for me.

Cooled rice, green bananas, and unmodified potato starch will provide you with some resistant starch, but to get a really good dosage, you will be bloated beyond belief and have other side effects.
