SelfDecode vs. Other DNA companies

Written by Joe Cohen, BS | Last updated:

Over the last 3 months, we’ve added more than 40 scientists and engineers to our team.

It hasn’t been easy finding the best talent. But, we did it.

We hired some top bioinformaticians, genomics scientists and experts in AI. We picked the best people from 40,000 applicants.

One data engineer with a PhD in math from a top university in France got bored of working at a hedge fund, so he decided to join us in revolutionizing precision health with genetics. Another ex-Facebook employee has 6 patents under his belt and a PhD in computer science from Princeton got bored at his job and wanted a bigger challenge.

I made it clear to everyone who wanted to join, that we are solving the toughest problems in the space, and if they want to join, they need to be ready to spend their weekends thinking about and solving these problems.

So, it got me wondering…

Where do other DNA health test companies find their experts?

What started off as some general research ended up being a deep dive through every single one of our competitor’s Linkedin, website and press coverage.

I couldn’t believe what I found.

They didn’t have a problem finding their talent because they don’t have ANY of the talent necessary.

These companies don’t have a single person on their team capable of doing legitimate risk predictions based on genetics or precision health recommendations. They are using completely outdated and illegitimate methods. It’s one big scam.

One company I found had 309 employees on Linkedin and only ONE ACTUAL SCIENTIST. They are a big company in the space and marketing their product as accurate, but that’s not possible without a legitimate science team with the proper expertise.

For reference, we have 68 highly qualified scientists and engineers.

I was shocked. I knew that we were doing things better at SelfDecode, but I honestly didn’t realize how much of a scam these other companies are.

It’s not just shocking, it’s disheartening.

I got into this field because I want to allow people to make better health decisions – using their DNA, labs and other data.

I want people to experience the life-changing power of truly personalized health. Even one precise health recommendation can make a world of a difference in someone’s health for the rest of their life.

You can’t do that with inaccurate results and recommendations.

This is science. Not magic.

And now all these DNA companies out there are just pretending to give real results.

Their use of the word “personalized” is just a marketing tactic, and nothing more. You can’t give someone truly personalized results when all you’re looking at is a few genetic variants. That’s like reading one sentence out of a book and then writing a summary of the whole story… It’s all made up.

We are literally looking at millions of variants using our AI to be able to come up with the best genetic prediction and precision health recommendations that science has to offer.

All they’re doing is stunting the growth of real personalized healthcare.

Do you know why they’re doing this?

Because what we’re doing is difficult and expensive.

It’s a real science and engineering feat to build the most advanced DNA analysis tool and provide precision health recommendations.

It takes some really smart and talented (i.e. expensive) people to do that.

In order to give you the most accurate results and personalized recommendations based on your genes, we’re using the latest techniques in AI, including deep learning, bayesian machine learning and hyperdimensional computing for genetic imputation and our genetic models.

So, while everyone else is taking the easy way out to make an extra dollar off of consumers that aren’t able to confirm how accurate the reports really are…

We’ll be over here doing real personalized health.

So that you can feel better, live longer and be free from the long-lasting symptoms that you haven’t been able to solve.

We’re betting that consumers will be able to see through the noise of marketing and notice the difference in the quality.

If you’re thinking of getting DNA analysis at another company, I honestly think you are better off going to palm readers.

Don’t be fooled by companies promising results, when they don’t even have the talent to back it up.

I’ve actually confronted a few companies like this and offered them to use our platform instead of using their own scam product. Their response was that consumers don’t notice the difference and they are not interested in spending any money to get more accurate results.

Buyer beware.
