I remember going on a walk on a cold winter day in 2013, strategizing how I was going to live on less than $1,000/mo in New York City, the most expensive city in the world.
Before optimizing my health, I couldn’t even hold down a job because I wasn’t healthy enough to work, and I dropped out of school because of my health issues.
I couldn’t predict the future and I had to prepare for the strong possibility that I would never fix my health issues and be permanently disabled from working and living a normal life.
My family was in NY and I was afraid to move anywhere else because I had no income and no job, just some savings from odd jobs that I was hoping to stretch out as long as I could.
I had just moved out from my mother’s apartment, which was literally a nightmare. Coming from an ultra orthodox Jewish home, my mother constantly nagged at me to become religious, get married and have kids with a Jewish girl, and become a lawyer.
I initially moved in because of my health issues, but I moved out in worse shape from all the stress. At that point, I was looking into homeless shelters rather than moving back home as a backup option.
I remember strategizing around this time how I was going to break out of this cycle of ill health and poverty.
How could I improve my health when I don’t really understand what the issue is? How do I break out of this cycle?
And then I realized that if I focus on my health day in and day out, and systematically try every possible therapy out there on the market that I could afford, I would likely find SOME therapies that work.
Even if I do 1000 experiments and find 5 things that work really well for me, those discoveries would pay dividends over a lifetime of improved health.
In hindsight, the strategy worked much better than I ever imagined.
1,000 experiments later, and I found around a dozen things that really worked well for me. I had literally tried everything that I could get my hands on.
Even though 99% of my experiments failed, the 1% that were successful continue to pay MASSIVE dividends 7 years later, in terms of improved health and earning capacity.
Jeff Bezos (Amazon founder) likes to say that the vast majority of things Amazon tries completely flops, but the minority of successes have huge payoffs that make up for all the failures and much more.
This is because a single success can cause exponential results.

I knew that the earlier I found out what would work for me, the better. Every day that I don’t know how to be optimally healthy, I am losing health, longevity, happiness and money.
I had so much potential waiting to be unleashed, but my health issues had just disabled me for most of my life.
The funny thing is, now I don’t even spend any time trying to be healthy. Maybe a few hours a week in total, whereas before my whole day would revolve around trying to be healthy.
My net worth would be negative if I didn’t know how to be optimally healthy, whereas now it’s an 8 figure number.
So what were the biggest movers for me? I found out that food sensitivities were the biggest cause of my issues.
How did I know? I would literally eat one food for a whole day and see how I felt. If I didn’t feel good, I eliminated it from my diet.
This is why I’ve worked so hard for the past 7 years to provide resources and tools that don’t require you to do the crazy things that I’ve done in the past.
Solving one food sensitivity problem led to significantly improved health, which led to a successful career.
There’s simply an infinite number of experiments that can be done, and most people have a hard time being able to tell changes in their physiological state.
The approach I took in 2013 isn’t practical, nor would I advise it for anyone. In fact, I abandoned it myself once SelfDecode came out.
