Self-help scams, dopamine, and a biologically good mood

Written by Joe Cohen, BS | Last updated:

People ask me, what are some of the biggest turning points in my life?

Getting to the source of my inflammation and fixing my mood were 2 of the biggest changes in my life.

I’ve thought a lot about happiness. In the first couple of years of biohacking, I saw it as something that could be attained based on mindset, practices, and my environment.

I needed to have the right mindset, philosophy, daily habits… and the list goes on. This was pivotal for achieving happiness, right? At least, that’s what all these “self-help” books told me.

I tried every one of these things, in many different forms. Unfortunately, none of them ever worked on a long-term basis – not for me at least.

In 2017, my theory was that another key pillar to happiness was to be in a committed relationship – and maybe that’s something I was missing.

I ended up finding someone and we were in a relationship for 2 years before we broke up. The relationship was good, but I still wasn’t happy and it was clear to me that you can’t find happiness externally, it needs to be biological.

My Goal: Be Happy Every Day, No Matter What

I found it pretty ironic that I was the CEO of SelfDecode, a company dedicated to creating a platform to completely optimize your health, and yet I was unhappy.

When I say that it’s hard to take the first step to optimize your health, I mean that for everyone, myself included.

After being unhappy for some time, especially after the breakup, I thought to myself: “Wait a minute, I know a ton about my biology and how various supplements work – based on my genetics and previous experiments – and I have the SelfDecode platform to help me. Why am I not focusing on my mood?”

I mean, think about it… happiness is the most important thing in life. What was I doing?

So I made a goal that I was never going to have an unhappy day or be in a bad mood in my life.

Because I already had a ton of information from all the previous years and software that made it easier to look up information (SelfDecode), it only took me 2 weeks to crack my own mood code.

The Creation of My Personalized Supplement

Once I cracked the code on myself, I decided to create my own formula with over a dozen ingredients.

It feels like almost every person I meet has some mood-related issue, and yet many of them don’t even realize that their mood is an issue.

One thing I learned about optimizing my own health and other people’s health was that it’s hard to realize the magnitude of a problem until it’s fixed. It’s hard to think about what could be.

People very commonly have feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness, irritability, regret, resentment, guilt, inadequacy, loneliness, emptiness, frustration, fear, failure, anger, and problems letting go of the past.

You don’t have to experience these negative emotions consistently. If you do, it means you have room to optimize your mental health.

So I thought to myself, how can we help people create their own personalized supplements in the easiest way possible?

Instantly Generate Your Own Formula Based On Your DNA

Working on my own mood formula was fun, but the future is personalization as we all know.

That’s why I’m excited to announce the launch of our Personalized Supplement feature on SelfDecode!

This feature takes into account more than just mood to give you a comprehensive formula customized to your genetics.

You can also customize our suggested formula by easily adding or subtracting any supplements that you want.

One thing that is super cool is that my personalized supplement in SelfDecode based on all of my genetics had my top 5 supplements that I had previously included in my own mood formula that took me hours and hours to figure out. It instantly knew what I needed.

Gone are the days of needing dozens of supplement bottles in your cabinet and settling for generic vitamin blends.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Our AI scans all of your DNA Health Reports with high or average genetic predispositions
  2. It combines your personalized supplement recommendations into a single formula.
  3. If you want – You can edit your formula by adding or removing ingredients.
  4. Finish your order to have your personalized supplement sent directly to your door!

As an avid biohacker, you might still see me on my socials taking megadoses of other supplements as an experiment.

But you don’t need a cabinet of hundreds of supplement bottles and to be a guinea pig for the past 15 years like I’ve been. Unless you want to 😉

Sign up for SelfDecode today and build your very own personalized supplement.
