ADHD Diagnosis As An Adult: Discover The New Attention Report

Written by Kayla Valdes | Last updated:

How often do you glance at your phone while in the middle of a task? My answer used to be, “Way too many”.

Blaming today’s technology is the easy way out – I mean, how can I focus if Kourtney Kardashian’s engagement is trending on Twitter?

It’s true that the majority of the population has a shorter attention span now than ever before, but the truth is, I always thought procrastination was just a part of life.

I still remember telling my parents I had a science project due the next morning when I was in elementary school, and the subsequent shuffle to the pharmacy to grab supplies while still wearing my bunny slippers.

News flash: that’s NOT just a totally normal, quirky thing about me. But I didn’t discover that until I was diagnosed with ADHD at 21.

So, I did what most people in our society tell you to do; I went to a doctor, and the only course of treatment was to try stimulants. They helped… But I felt jittery, my blood pressure spiked, and I was dealing with side effects like insomnia and irritability for the first time in my life.

Working at SelfDecode was how I discovered that my genetics and environment played a HUGE role in my attention struggles – so when I heard that the science team was working on an Attention DNA Report, I knew I needed to get my hands on it as soon as possible.

Using Your Genes To Increase Focus

Just in case you thought I was being dramatic… Here’s an example of how bad I am at paying attention:

ADHD DNA report

Yeah – worse than 86% of the population bad. Being distracted by seeing a squirrel is practically baked into my DNA.

But my report comes equipped with a prioritized list of diet, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations based on my genes – recommendations that I hadn’t heard before on any doctor’s visit (like supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids!).

Making changes to my lifestyle based on my DNA wasn’t done overnight – but one recommendation high up on my list was exercise.

My ST3GAL3 gene variant is linked to ADHD and likely impairs brain cell communication, and regular exercise (Especially cardio) may help by:

✅ Improving blood flow in the brain

✅ Reducing inflammation

✅ Improving brain cell communication

It may seem like a no-brainer, but once I understood the reasons behind why exercise may help boost my attention, something clicked.

I recruited an accountability partner (A.K.A my mom) and hit the gym religiously every weekday at 6 AM to get our cardio in for at least 30 minutes.

I hate to prove all of those fitness savvy people right, but the results have truly been life-changing for me. If following this one recommendation has made such a difference, I can’t wait to see the results once I start following more. I’ll be so focused, everyone will be asking ME where they left their car keys!

Increase Your Attention By Checking Your Genes

The new Attention report analyzes over 271,000 gene variants to provide you with completely personalized recommendations that help you boost your attention…

Which makes SelfDecode’s report more accurate than virtually any other attention DNA report in the world.

Boosting your attention can start small. You never know how much implementing just one into your regimen may help until you try – and your Attention Report provides many personalized recommendations to choose from, all based on your unique genes.

Be one of the first to get your hands on the brand-new Attention Report by checking your genes, then let me know how it helps you!
